Improving teacher student relationships

Students spend many years in school. As they say, these are the formative years. Social psychologists feel the relationship between teacher and student can impact the development on the individual. Since the students are with the teachers 5 days a week, they become part of the students life. One of the most important relationships that exist today is the teacher/student relationship or interaction. Both the teacher and the students need to cooperate with each other in order to reach the educational quotes. Teacher's perceptions of the students can have a negative effect on them if they focus on weak points rather than positive ones. Keeping the relationship between student and teacher will take effort on both sides, but it is the teacher's mission to find the suitable conditions and ways in order to build a positive relationship with the students.

You're absolutely right students need to feel that their teachers care about them in order to get involved in the learning process. However some students get really attached to the teacher maybe due to some familial problems which makes it hard for both the teacher and the student to define the border of their relationship.

The strong relationship between the teacher and the students shows how this teacher has a great effect on the students. The teacher from the beginning of the year must develop a relationship with the students she is dealing with in which she can enhance teaching and the students' performance would improve since they will feel more confident and engaged in participation. But the teacher must develop a set of rules that the students must follow and respect, and in that way the teacher would be teaching them how to respect rules later on in the society. When the students feel that the teacher cares about them, they would feel the safety and security they need to develop their skills and learn in a better way. So we hope that all teachers would have this strategy in their mind and apply it to become much more effective teachers, and leave behind the idea they have about being controllers in the class and superior to students.

Positive relationships between students and teachers serve as protective tools for students that are low achievers, have emotional problems, or low socioeconomics.
Teachers need to apply behavioral management strategies to improve the relationships between them and their students. Students will feel important and more self confident. They will not be afraid of taking challenges and competing to improve more.

Definitely, the positive relationship between the teacher and the student is essential in the teaching process. If this relation is negative the student not only hates the teacher but the course itself.
