Some challenges for NOVICE teacehrs

A teacher's first year on the job is often difficult. Many non teaching teachers feel afraid of teaching for the first time. Many teachers that quit their teaching  profession is because of some challenges that they face during the first couple of years. Some challenges that novice teachers may face are: struggling with classroom management; sinking in non supportive environments; and not being able to deal with the curricular material freely.
1. Struggling with classroom management: The biggest challenge that surfaces for new teachers is classroom management. New teachers are particularly unprepared for dealing with behavior problems in their classrooms
2. Sinking in non supportive environments: New teachers often have difficult interactions with colleagues, either being neglected from experienced ones or others competing them.
3. Not being able to deal with the curricular material freely: who have not yet developed a repertoire of lesson ideas or knowledge of what will work in their classroom and be able to teach the curricular material freely the way they want.

We should be provided with some practical training to deal with such difficulties in order to enhance our performance and therefore give better results in terms of teaching and class room managemant

As a beginner teacher I faced a lot of problems and these were one of them since I didn't have any practical experience in dealing with students and managing their behavior. But through experience I have learned that when the topics presented for students are really interesting and engaging their behavior would change positively and they would like to learn more. Also the teacher must not show the students that she is facing a problem or afraid of managing the class or even teaching, she must be confident of what she is giving and therefore the students would develop this feeling in themselves too.

I remembered my first day when I started teaching, it was so horrible. I was not well prepared to deal with students especially because their ages were much close to mine. I could see the difference now after I took my td courses I’m now more aware to the discipline problems that might happen in my class and the ways that I’m supposed to deal with such problems. The course classroom management opened my eyes to fine details that tend to enhance my methods in dealing with students. Also I faced another difficulty with my colleagues that were my teachers 3 years ago. They first didn’t support me and even look at me that I’m still young and that I’m not supposed to give my opinion in case of having a discussion related to school decisions. Later things became easy and I started to adapt myself to the environment around me and started to discuss with them to show them that although I’m a novice teacher but I’m ready to learn from my own experiences. I believe that every teacher may face such difficulty but the most important thing is that she should be able to learn things that make her experience positive and worthy.

For me, teaching was more difficult than i used to think. When we meet veteran teachers we can know from their experience that they used to be like us. Novice teachers need to be prepared professionally to know more about teaching, curriculum, and pedagogy. Also they should be helped to increase their skills in organization and dealing with colleagues.

The problems faced by novice teachers are common among all. For this reason, I believe that it is the responsibility of every school that hires novice teachers to provide them with the suitable training to adapt to the school's environment. Furthermore, more experienced teachers can help novice teachers since they once were in their places and must have struggled a lot. In addition, colleagues should work together to make their school more successful.
